There are many wooden products. Wood is used in everywhere in our life. Some factory use laser engraving machine to process wood while some factories use CNC engraving machine to process wood. What is the difference between the two?
Laser engraving machine can engrave on wood at much higher precision than that of CNC router machine. Laser machine can engrave small words on the surface of wood while CNC router engraves bigger words on wood. That is because laser machine is equipped with laser tube while CNC router use knife to engrave on wood and other materials. Laser machine can also draw clear pictures on the surface of wood while CNC router can only draw draft ones. If you take a picture and let a laser engraver to do it, it can give you a beautiful photo.This is also called shadow carving.
Laser engraving machine can engrave on the surface of wood or a little deeper. The maximum depth is normally 3mm. CNC router engraving machine can engrave much deeper, the depth can reach 25mm. About cutting, laser machine can cut wood maximum 20mm with high laser power while CNC router can cut 30mm or more.
The main consumable part for laser machine is laser tube. You can use one laser tube for 2-3 years and change new one after that. CNC router use knives to do the engraving&cutting. Different materials use different knives. So you need to prepare many knives. Normally,one knife can use 2-5 days. So you need to buy many knives.
CNC router can do 3D on wood while laser machine can not. Laser machine can cut acrylic with very clean edge no need polish while the acrylic cut by CNC router machine need polish.
Generally speaking, if you want to engrave at higher precision on wood or cut acrylic,please choose laser engraving&cutting machine. If you need to do 3D one wood or cut wood more than 20mm, CNC router will be your best choice.
